It’s May in Colorado
It was 86 degrees Thursday afternoon. This is what our yard looked like this morning…
That’s after me going out three times in the snowstorm to shake off our baby trees. And to make things more exciting, the line looped over one of the cables (just to the right of the big tree) is a downed power line. Fortunately we were all inside at the time! That happened around 3am. My husband said there were some really loud noises and a big flash of light. Somehow I slept through the whole thing. 🙂
I moved most of my pots inside before the storm showed up. It felt really weird to do that when it was so warm outside, but I’m glad I did! I’m also glad I was watching the forecast last weekend and decided to stop planting peppers and tomatoes. Three pots were too heavy to move, so I covered those plants with multiple layers of things to insulate them. I also covered some bushes that I felt would survive, but would be unhappy with the snow. My backyard looks a bit disheveled between the dropping foliage and the boxes and plastic coverings scattered about. 🙂 I’m leaving most things covered for a couple of days until the nighttime temperatures go back to normal, then we’ll see how well that worked.
I have two stories coming out soon. One is a reprint of a story I love, and I’m really happy that it’ll be in one more place and therefore available to brand new readers. I’ll post more about it once that anthology is out. I wrote the other one for a historical fiction workshop I took in 2016 on the Oregon coast, but up until now hadn’t found an anthology with a theme that fit, so it’s been sitting around for a while. I’m going to make an editing pass, then it’ll be ready to go!
